Research

User insight analysis

User interviews and usability tests were conducted for this project. In order to understand user needs, navigation challenges, and the expectations from the app.

Users currently face significant challenges in navigating albums, primarily due to a complex and unintuitive interface. This complexity hinders the ability to easily access and identify all available albums, leading to user frustration. Improving the interface design is crucial to enhance usability and user satisfaction.

User frustration stems from the app's hamburger menu, an unconventional choice for album navigation that complicates the experience. The dual navigation methods add to the confusion, creating a steep learning curve. Moreover, the app's non-native behaviors deviate from familiar standards, further alienating users.

Album creation and collaboration in the app are hindered by complexity and redundancy, challenging users with a non-intuitive process. Users often resort to guessing in album management, underscoring a clear need for simplification. The cumbersome task of adding collaborators further complicates usability, lacking both clarity and ease of management.

The subscription plan details suffer from a lack of clarity and aesthetic appeal, leading to significant user challenges in understanding their subscriptions. Moreover, the current design constrains the potential for expanding plan options, limiting both user choice and business scalability.

Define

Key improvements to expand our reach

Through gathered insights, we've identified key areas for improvement. Our goal is to craft an experience that resonates with our growing user base.

Streamline navigation

Simplify user flow, reducing cognitive load to achieve an intuitive, user-friendly interface that meets expectations.

Improve interactions

Albums play a pivotal role in user interaction. Enhancing them would significantly improve the overall experience.

Boost user engagement

Boosting app by improving the collaboration experience will encourage more user interactions.

Value enhancement

Paid albums broaden possibilities. Refining the plan presentation can drive increased revenue.

Problem

Streamline navigation

In efforts to improve the application, it’s worth highlighting the usability issues that have been encountered by users in the current app design. Along with highlighting some design issues.

Main screen shows the latest album user has with no clear way of how to navigate to other albums or create a new one.

Navigating through albums is hidden under the hamburger menu, making it both tricky and unexpected. The album list is not intuitive and has touch target issues. Also, there's redundant use of the hamburger menu, which can be removed to streamline navigation through the tab bar.

Solution

Modernized design and navigation

The album tab shows a list of albums in a card style, highlighting collaborators in the album and providing helpful details about each album.

The emphasis of brand strategy is reflected in dynamic greeting messages, personalizing user interaction.

Searching functionality to enable smooth experience and allow users to find specific albums faster.

Filtering option is introduced in album view to help users sort albums based on their needs.

Problem

Improve interactions

Improving album management gives users more control over their albums. A smooth experience with this is important for user satisfaction and engagement.

Key album management features, like editing album and managing members, within a hamburger menu. This choice, though it simplifies the interface, makes these important features less visible and harder to access.

Adding members to an album consists of two methods, scanning a QR code or sharing a unique code. While these methods provide a straightforward approach, the invitation process can be further enhanced for user convenience and broader accessibility.

Solution

Fast and efficient album management

The album page now has a new visual design, featuring a grid layout with large, clear images. This change aims to make viewing albums more enjoyable and engaging.

Album management, a key app feature, is now more accessible in the top navigation bar, making it easier to find and use important features, thereby streamlining album control for users.

Collaborator management, redesigned for ease, now allows quick adding, removing, and finding of collaborators with visual aids like profile pictures and names.

Information architecture is revamped, integrating a list of common actions to simplify the user flow and reduce cognitive load, aligning with familiar user behaviors.

Problem

Boost user engagement

Creating a new album is frustrating, because the feature is not easily visible, being hidden inside a switch album dropdown menu.

The button color scheme in the app is confusing, with no clear difference between primary and secondary buttons, affecting the user experience.

The layout for album creation is inefficient, with redundant information like the creator's name, which is already known to the app. It also overlooks the addition of collaborators.

Album plans lack design appeal and conversion power, misaligned with the app's visual focus.

The current design restricts adding new plans, impacting future scalability.

Solution

Enhancing album usability

Simplifying the process of creating and joining albums, now included in the tab bar for quick and easy access.

Album creation has essential functions such as naming the album and adding collaborators from the start, ensuring a quick setup.

Directly adding collaborators simplifies album joining, aiming to phase out the separate join album feature in the future.

The color palette and buttons have been updated to better reflect our branding and enable more creative usage.

Album subscriptions visually refined

The subscription plan layout has been optimized to incorporate an emotional aspect, featuring videos for a quick overview of each plan's offerings.

Furthermore, the plans are now structured for easy expansion, allowing the addition of more options in the future.

Considering our visually-oriented target audience, who frequently upload pictures and videos to their albums, we've adopted a similar visual presentation style. This approach aids in establishing a stronger connection with them.

Our updated design system introduces a versatile color scheme, seamlessly shifting between light and dark modes. The light mode offers a bright, clear interface, ideal for daytime use and enhancing readability.

In contrast, dark mode features a muted palette, perfect for low-light or evening settings, reducing eye strain. This adaptability ensures user comfort and suits various environments.
